The Showdown by Daniel Hernandez
Confrontación is inspired by the Aztec legend, The Fifth Sun. According to a Mexican ancient legend, the Gods met to give rise to The Fifth Sun. To give the sun the strength to move, the Gods decided to sacrifice themselves. One of the Gods, Xólotl, refused to give up his life and decided to use his ability to transform and hide in nature. Finally, Xolotl was captured and sacrificed as a Mexican salamander, called axolotl. Now, Xolotl has the mission of guarding the sun as it travels through the underworld every night.
Nomad by Daniel Hernandez
In his work Errante (Nomad), Hernandez explores the idea of people wandering from place to place with a nebulous and somewhat ambivalent plan. Our struggle to adapt to new customs, fit in a foreign society, dress differently, and even try different music. It is about an endless migration searching for our true identity, just like a bird searching for a destination, even if its heart remains rooted in its hometown.
"I was only two years old when my father left"
Like many Oaxacan men of rural origin, the father of graphic artist Daniel Hernandez immigrated to the United States in the 1990s, as a way to improve the standard of living of the family."
